Course Materials: Dewey

A comprehensive website on John Dewey and his importance for American pragmatism is "John Dewey, American Pragmatism."  The site, a wing of the Pragmatism cybrary, includes links to other Dewey sites and extensive bibliographic information.

The Center for Dewey Studies at Southern Illinois University is the official repository of Dewey's works.  The website provides information about Dewey's works as well as links to resources and writings about Dewey.

Instructors who wish to provide students with a general overview of Dewey's life and work may wish to show the film "John Dewey:  His Life and Work," narrated by Larry Hickman, director of the Center for Dewey Studies.
Click here for information about the film.  I usually use the film when I teach Philosophy of Education, but not Philosophy adn the City, as the film does not address Dewey's ideas on cities.  But the film does provide an excellent overview.
