If you are an instructor who has adopted PHILOSOPHY AND THE CITY or is thinking of doing so, I invite you to join my Philosophy and the City Instructors' Only networking site, hosted by ning.com. The purpose of the site is to promote the networking and sharing of resources among instructors.
By making the site available only to registered instructors, we can prevent students from accessing teaching tips and assignments intended for instructors’ eyes only. To receive an invitation to join the site, please click on the instructor registration link now and complete the form; I will send you an invitation to join the networking site if I can confirm that you are a faculty member.
Currently (as of January 2009) the only restricted access material (that is, the material available only to instructors) are my instructions for developing walking tours. I have done "philosophy in the city tours" for students of all ages, and found that all respond very positively to them. For teens and young adults, I have done podcasts that allow for individualized walking tours, and they love them! This spring, I will be adding more “instructor” only materials for philosophy instructors, but will also respond to queries from instructors (like yourself) who teach in other disciplines. My hope, though, is that as the network builds there will be the opportunity for you to network with other instructors from the same and similar disciplines, rather than merely interacting with me.
I hope that you will respond to my e-mail (sent separately) and join the ning.com network “Philosophy and the City Instructor Network . If/when you decide to adopt the book, I hope that you'll share your experiences with others. It is my sincere hope that we can create a community of interested users who share an interest in teaching urban philosophy. I hope that you will join that community. Instructors from all disciplines are welcome to participate.
If you have already responded to an invitation and have joined the networking site on ning.com, then you can click on this link to go to that site; you'll have to sign-i to ning.com to access the site. instructors' network.
